“HEY NEBRASKA!” 😂✈️🤿

There’s nothing quite like walking through the airport, hearing someone yell that across the terminal, and turning around to realize…it’s your dive friends from the boat!

Josh and I weren’t even staying at the same resort as our new Florida friends. We just happened to end up on the same dive boat while scuba diving in Aruba, spent the day diving together, swapping stories, laughing, and getting to know each other.

Then suddenly we’re running into each other at the airport like we’ve known each other forever. 😂❤️

And honestly? This is one of my absolute favorite things about traveling.

The People You Meet Become Part of the Trip 🌎

You guys already know me. Somehow, I ALWAYS make friends when we travel. 😂

Whether we meet someone at the resort, on an excursion, on a cruise ship, at the airport, or 60 feet underwater on a scuba diving trip, I love getting to know people along the way.

And the coolest part is that a lot of the time, those friendships don’t end when the vacation does.

We’ve stayed connected with people we’ve met while traveling, and those unexpected friendships have become some of my favorite vacation memories.

Think about it.

You can start your morning as complete strangers.

A few hours later, you’re sitting on a dive boat together in Aruba, gearing up for the next dive, exploring shipwrecks underwater, telling stories about where you’ve traveled, laughing about something that happened on the boat, and talking about where everybody wants to dive next.

By the end of the day, you have new vacation friends. 🤿🌊

That’s something I don’t think we talk about enough when we talk about travel.

Travel Is About More Than the Destination

Of course I love a beautiful resort.

Give me the Caribbean water, amazing food, a gorgeous room, a swim-up pool, and an adventure waiting for me, and I am HAPPY. 😂🌴

And scuba diving is always going to be a huge part of how Josh and I experience a destination.

But some of the memories that stick with me the longest aren’t necessarily the resort room or what we ate for dinner.

They’re the people.

It’s laughing with someone you just met.

It’s recognizing somebody across the airport and hearing, “HEY NEBRASKA!”

It’s exchanging contact information because you genuinely want to stay connected.

It’s following each other’s next adventures and wondering if someday you’ll somehow end up in the same destination again.

Those little moments are part of what makes traveling so special.

Scuba Diving Makes the World Feel Even Smaller 🤿

I especially love this about scuba travel.

There’s already something connecting everyone on the boat: we all love being underwater.

You meet divers from different states, different countries, different backgrounds, and completely different walks of life.

But once everybody starts talking about their favorite dive destination, the coolest thing they’ve seen underwater, or where they want to dive next, there’s immediately something to talk about.

That’s exactly what happened with our Florida dive friends in Aruba.

We came to Aruba for our own vacation. We stayed at our own resort. We had our own plans.

But for a few hours, our adventures crossed.

And now they’re part of our Aruba memories. ❤️🇦🇼

Maybe We’ll Meet Again Somewhere Underwater 🌊

That’s one of the beautiful things about travel: you never really know whose path is going to cross yours.

Maybe we’ll end up on another dive boat together in Cozumel.

Maybe Belize.

Maybe somewhere none of us have been yet.

I’m hoping someday we’re getting ready for a dive, look across the boat, recognize each other and immediately hear…

“HEY NEBRASKA!” 😂

Although next time, I think it’s only fair that we beat them to it.

“HEY FLORIDA!” 😂👋🏾

Until then, I’ll keep adding the people we meet to the long list of reasons I love traveling.

Because yes, I want you to see beautiful destinations.

I want you to experience incredible resorts.

I want you to try new foods, swim in ridiculously blue water, go scuba diving, explore somewhere you’ve never been, and finally take the trip you’ve been talking about forever.

But I also hope somewhere along the way, you meet some amazing people.

Those unexpected friendships might just become one of your favorite souvenirs. ❤️🌎
